Etain Sleep Under The Stars For Charity
September 13, 2017

As part of Action for Children’s Byte Night, now the UK's largest sleep out event, Etain will be joining individuals and teams from across the technology and business services sectors sleeping out to raise vital funds to help prevent youth homelessness.

Established in 1998, Byte Night is Action for Children's biggest annual fundraiser. The national ‘sleep-out’ event attracts hundreds of likeminded people from across the UK’s business arena. Each participant will give up their bed for one night in aid of the lives of vulnerable young people.

In an effort to experience in some small way, the hardship of homelessness, participants will be sleeping outdoors with minimal shelter and have little more than a sleeping bag, a roll-out mat or cardboard base and a torch.

Action for Children help disadvantaged children across the UK from before they are even born right into their twenties, helping them through fostering, adoption and careful, early interventions designed to stop neglect and abuse.

At any one time there are approximately 83,000 homeless young people in the UK. Coming from a range of situations beyond their control, many of the young men and women you see sleeping rough on our streets have come from situations of abuse, family breakdowns and mental health issues.

With a Belfast City centre office, we witness homelessness daily and see just how bad the living conditions get, particularly in the colder months. As a cause close to our hearts, we’re happy to get involved by sleeping out for such a worthwhile cause, and one we can see in effect on our very doorstep. Ahead of her participation, Jill Wilson, Head of HR for Etain says:

Byte Night is an opportunity to gather with other members of the IT industry, to fundraise and put a spotlight on homelessness, so when Etain was invited to take part the response it was a no brainer.  Etain’s head office is in Belfast City Centre so every day we walk past shop fronts sheltering somebody wrapped in a blanket.  We are really excited to raise funds for the Action of Children charity and its work with the homeless.  One night sleeping out is a small gesture, but we are hopeful that our network of clients, friends and families will see it as reminder of the reality of homelessness and give us their support.

Byte Night takes place on Friday 6th October, across 10 locations throughout the UK. Representing Etain Ltd, Jill Wilson, Stacey McKinstry and Debbie Vincent will be sleeping under the stars at Stormont Playing fields and have £1500 to raise! If you’d like to join us in supporting the ladies, use our official JustGiving page or the donations button below to contribute what you can. We appreciate any and all donations you can make to this very meaningful cause.
