Working in partnership with the Ulster University, Etain is offering the opportunity to work as a Junior Developer, on real projects with our expert teams in parallel with undertaking a part-time BSc Computing Systems with Ulster University, Jordanstown.  By the end of the 5 years of study you will have gained incomparable industry experience and be ready to kick your IT career up a gear.

As well as providing you with technical skills, soft skills and commercial experience, the scheme provides practical help too; the scheme pays for your university fees, it pays a full-time salary and provides you with a permanent contract of employment.

Working it out

Its not easy to picture the day to day reality of a career in Software Development when you are sitting in a classroom.  The following list gives you an idea of the variety of activities you will very quickly be undertaking:

  • System Analysis and Design

  • Develop system and user acceptance tests

  • Develop implementation plans

  • Document projects to the agreed standard

  • Obtain a full understanding of business requirements, system requirements, technical requirements and project constraints

  • Develop code/deliverables, according to company standards, within the timeframe and effort specified

  • Unit test code

  • Provide support for system testing, user acceptance testing and implementation testing

  • Ensure documentation is complete for all allocated tasks

  • Complete all project administration in a timely manner e.g. time sheets

  • Ensure team members are informed of status of work-in-progress

  • Customer Liaison

  • Communicate on the project as appropriate with the customer e.g. status, risks, change control etc.

  • Customer relationship management

  • Support and assist in the ongoing implementation of the Quality Management System and other company initiatives

  • Help and assist others at all levels within the company where appropriate

  • Stay abreast of technology trends

Selection Process

If you are hard-working, ready for a challenge and ambitious for your career in IT, the Smart Start scheme is right for you. 

We select our Smart Starts based on academic success but also a proven appetite for new technology, problem solving, team work and creativity.

You will have A-Level or Btec or equivalent qualifications, with two Grade  B results in one or more of the following A-Level subjects (or equivalent):
  • Computer Science
  • ICT
  • Software Development
  • Digital Technology
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Accountancy Economics
You will be required to submit your CV which should provide the following information:
  • GCSE Results
  • AS Levels (if applicable)
  • Work Experience
  • Other Skills / Interests

Closing Date

The closing date for applications is Monday 16th April 2018

Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.  Successful applicants will start their employment in September 2018.
